Connecticut's no-children, no-real-property divorce is filed on paper, by both spouses, with six court forms and no hearing. Here is the packet in order, the conditions on page 1 of the petition, and where to file for each of the 13 judicial districts.
Connecticut's nonadversarial divorce (C.G.S. § 46b-44a, form JD-FM-242) is only for couples who can answer every one of these the way the form requires:
Residency: at least one of you has lived in Connecticut for the 12 months before filing or before the decree, or you lived here when married and have returned permanently, or the marriage broke down after one of you moved here (C.G.S. § 46b-44). If any condition fails, this track is unavailable; Connecticut's regular dissolution is a different process that FilingFoundry does not prepare.
| Form | What it is | Signing |
|---|---|---|
| JD-FM-242 Joint Petition — Nonadversarial Divorce | Both petitioners (the form calls you Petitioner A and Petitioner B) ask for the divorce and attest to the conditions above. | Both, before a notary, clerk or commissioner of the Superior Court |
| JD-CL-12 Appearance | One for each petitioner, telling the court you represent yourself. | Each petitioner |
| JD-FM-6-SHORT or JD-FM-6-LONG Financial Affidavit | One per petitioner. The SHORT form has income and net-asset thresholds printed on it; use LONG if you exceed them. Complete every applicable section; inapplicable ones stay blank. | Each petitioner, sworn |
| JD-FM-260 Notice of Automatic Orders | The court's standing orders that apply from filing. Attached, not negotiated. | Acknowledged |
| JD-FM-243 Agreement (if any) | Only if you have a settlement agreement you want in the decree. | Both, subscribed and sworn |
| JD-FM-175 Certification of Notice (conditional) | Only if either of you received state or municipal financial assistance — you must notify the Assistant Attorney General or the City Clerk and file this. | The petitioner who gave notice |
Where and how: on paper, at the clerk's office of the judicial district where either petitioner lives (table below). The clerk assigns the docket number; the COURT USE ONLY block on JD-FM-242 stays empty. A Court Service Center reply in September 2026 confirmed the petition, affidavits and agreement may be signed separately before an authorized official, and that all originals are filed together.
Fee: $360 under C.G.S. § 52-259, confirmed by a Court Service Center in September 2026; a fee waiver is requested on JD-FM-75. Confirm the current amount with the receiving clerk, and bring the form of payment the clerk accepts.
Timeline: no hearing in most cases; the decree may enter roughly 30 days after filing unless either petitioner files a Notice of Revocation (JD-FM-245) first.
From the Judicial Branch directory, checked 2026-09-25. Which district you file in depends on where you live; each district page lists its towns.

FilingFoundry asks each spouse the JD-FM-242 questions separately, screens the ten statutory conditions before you start, transcribes your answers into the current jud.ct.gov forms (petition, two appearances, two financial affidavits, automatic orders, and the agreement if you have one), and keeps every court-use and signature box empty. You still sign before an authorized official, pay the court fee and file on paper at the clerk's office.
